Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my chimney swept in Dallas?
Have it inspected once a year. That is the National Fire Protection Association standard. We sweep it whenever the inspection shows soot or creosote buildup. Even if you only light a few fires each winter, a yearly visit catches bird nests, storm damage and leaks before the first cold night. A chimney sweep may also spot a cracked liner or a rusted damper that you cannot see from the living room.
How much does a chimney sweep cost in Dallas?
A chimney sweep with a level 1 safety inspection and a photo report costs $199 at Dallas Chimney Care. First-time customers pay $99. Estimates for repairs, caps and installations are free, and you always get a written price before any work starts.
Will a chimney sweep make a mess in my house?
No. We lay drop cloths around the fireplace before we start and run a vacuum while we work. We clean up fully before we leave, so you get a clean chimney and a spotless room.
How long does a chimney sweep and inspection take?
The average chimney sweep and inspection takes about an hour. A level 2 camera inspection or a very dirty flue can take a little longer. We give you an exact appointment window and text you when the technician is on the way.
Do gas fireplaces need to be cleaned or inspected?
Yes. Gas burns cleaner than wood, but burners clog, pilot parts wear out, and birds still nest in the flue. A yearly check keeps the fireplace lighting on the first try and keeps carbon monoxide out of your home. If your gas fireplace will not light, our service call is free.
What is the difference between a level 1 and a level 2 chimney inspection?
A level 1 inspection is a visual check of the parts we can reach, and it is right for a chimney you use every year with no changes. A level 2 inspection adds a camera scan of the whole flue. You need one when you buy or sell a home, after a chimney fire, or after a big storm.
Can you come the same day?
Most days, yes. We offer same-day and next-day appointments across Dallas, and we are open every day from 7 AM to 11 PM. For an emergency, like smoke in the house or water coming in, call us and we will get to you as fast as we can.
Is Dallas Chimney Care insured and certified?
Yes. Dallas Chimney Care is insured, and our owner is certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). He worked as a chimney technician for 20 years before opening the company.
Do you offer a warranty and financing?
Yes to both. Our work comes with a 5-year workmanship warranty. For larger repairs and installations, we offer financing with 0% interest for 24 months on approved credit.
What parts of Dallas do you serve?
We are based in Preston Center and serve all of Dallas, including Preston Hollow, University Park, Highland Park, Lakewood, Lake Highlands, the M Streets and North Dallas. We also travel across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
My gas fireplace will not light. What does it cost to have someone look at it?
Nothing. The service call for a gas fireplace is free. We come out, find the problem and give you a written price for the repair. You only pay if you approve it.
How much does dryer vent cleaning cost?
A basic dryer vent cleaning is $79 for vent runs up to 5 feet. Longer runs and vents that exit through the roof cost more, and we give you the price before we start.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes. Seniors, veterans and first responders get 10% off. Custom chimney caps are 10% off, and so is flashing and leak repair. We also match a written quote from an insured, CSIA certified company for the same work. One discount per job.
Why does my fireplace smell in the summer?
Humid air makes the soot and creosote in the flue smell stronger, and the air conditioner can pull that air down the chimney into the house. A chimney sweep removes the source. A damper that seals and a chimney cap help keep it from coming back.
Do I need a chimney cap?
Yes. A cap keeps rain, birds, squirrels and leaves out of the flue, and it stops sparks from landing on the roof. It is one of the least expensive ways to protect a chimney.
Why is my chimney leaking?
The usual causes are loose flashing where the chimney meets the roof, a cracked crown, a missing cap and brick that soaks up rain. We find the entry point first and give you a written price for the repair. The estimate is free.
There is an animal in my chimney. What should I do?
Close the damper and the fireplace doors, do not light a fire, and call us. We remove the animal the humane way, clean out the nest and install a cap so it cannot come back.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
Yes. We sweep, inspect and repair chimneys and fireplaces for apartment communities, condos, hotels, restaurants and offices, with a photo report for every unit.
Who will come to my home?
A member of our own team, in uniform, in a marked Dallas Chimney Care van. We are a small local company, and we do not pass your job to another company.
