If Your Dryer Needs Two Cycles, the Vent Is Telling You Something
A load of towels used to dry in 45 minutes. Now it takes two runs, and the top of the dryer is hot to the touch. The dryer is probably fine. The vent behind it is clogged.
Every load pushes warm, damp air and lint out through that vent. The lint trap catches some of it. The rest coats the inside of the duct, a little more each week, until the air can barely get through.
Dallas Chimney Care provides dryer vent cleaning in Dallas, TX. A basic cleaning is $79 for vent runs up to 5 feet.
Why a Clean Dryer Vent Matters
- Fire safety. Lint is highly flammable. A blocked vent traps heat right next to it.
- Faster drying. With clear airflow, loads dry in one cycle again.
- Lower bills. The dryer runs less, so it uses less electricity or gas.
- Longer dryer life. A dryer that is not overheating lasts longer.
- Carbon monoxide. A gas dryer vents its exhaust through the same duct. A blocked vent can push it back into the house.
Signs You Need Dryer Vent Cleaning
- Clothes are still damp after a full cycle
- The dryer or laundry room gets very hot
- A burning or musty smell when the dryer runs
- Lint around the dryer door or the outside vent
- The outside vent flap does not open
- It has been more than a year since the last cleaning
Our Dryer Vent Cleaning Process
- Check the airflow. We check how well the vent is moving air before we start.
- Disconnect the dryer. The dryer is pulled out and the vent hose removed.
- Brush and vacuum the vent. A rotary brush loosens the lint the whole length of the duct, and a vacuum collects it.
- Clean the outside vent. The hood and flap are cleared so the flap opens freely.
- Clean behind the dryer. Lint on the floor and the back of the machine is removed.
- Reconnect and test. We check the hose, reconnect it and check the airflow again.
Dryer Vents in Dallas Homes
Many newer Dallas homes have the laundry room in the middle of the house or upstairs. That means a long vent that runs up through the attic and out the roof. Long, vertical runs clog faster and are harder to clean, and birds often nest in roof vents.
Apartments and condos have the same problem on a larger scale. We clean dryer vents for whole buildings as part of our commercial chimney services.
Add It to Your Chimney Visit
Dryer vent cleaning is easy to pair with your yearly chimney sweep or chimney inspection. One visit, one team, and both fire risks are handled. The U.S. Fire Administration has more on preventing fires at home.
Dryer Vent Cleaning Is Not Air Duct Cleaning
People often mix the two up. Your air ducts carry heated and cooled air around the house and are part of the HVAC system. The dryer vent is a separate vent system with one job: carrying hot air and dryer lint from the dryer to the outside.
We are a chimney and dryer vent company. We do not offer air duct cleaning or HVAC duct cleaning, and a duct cleaning service that adds the dryer vent as an extra often does not have the tools to clean a long or vertical run. Professional dryer vent cleaning uses a rotary brush sized for the dryer vent system.
For a homeowner, regular cleaning is simple dryer vent maintenance that removes one of the most common fire hazards in the house and gives you peace of mind. We clean dryer vents across Dallas and the nearby DFW area in North Texas.
