The Part of Your Chimney That Does the Real Work

The brick you see from the yard is only the shell. Inside it runs the flue liner, a channel of clay tiles or steel that carries smoke, heat and gases out of your home. When the liner is whole, the brick and the wood around it stay cool and dry.

When the liner cracks, that protection is gone. Heat reaches the framing. Carbon monoxide can seep into the rooms next to the chimney. Acidic moisture from the smoke eats at the mortar from the inside.

Dallas Chimney Care installs chimney liners in Dallas, TX. We scan your flue with a camera first, so you see the damage before you decide anything.

Why Chimney Liners Fail in Dallas Homes

  • Foundation movement. The clay soil under Dallas swells when it rains and shrinks in a drought. When the house shifts, clay flue tiles crack.
  • Chimney fires. A creosote fire can crack tiles in seconds, even if no one in the house noticed it.
  • Water. A missing cap or cracked crown lets rain run down the flue and wash out the mortar between the tiles.
  • Age. Many older Dallas chimneys have liners that are 50 years old or more, and some were built with no liner at all.

Chimney Relining Options

Stainless steel chimney liners

This is what we install most. A stainless steel liner runs from the firebox or appliance to the top of the chimney in one piece. It works for wood fireplaces, gas logs, inserts and wood stoves, and it resists rust and heat.

Liners for inserts and wood stoves

A fireplace insert or wood stove needs its own liner, matched to the size of the appliance outlet. The right size gives a strong draft and less creosote.

Clay tile repair

If only a few tiles are cracked near the top, a partial repair can make sense. We tell you plainly when a repair will do and when a full liner is the safer choice.

How Chimney Liner Installation Works

  1. Camera inspection. We scan the whole flue and show you the photos. See our chimney inspection page.
  2. Measure and quote. You get a written price. The estimate is free, and financing for a new chimney liner is available.
  3. Sweep the flue. The old flue is cleaned so the new liner goes in clean. That is our chimney sweep service.
  4. Install the liner. The liner is lowered from the roof, connected at the bottom and sealed at the top with a plate and cap.
  5. Test. We check the draft and walk you through the finished work.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explains how a correctly sized, well-kept flue helps a fire burn cleaner in its Burn Wise program.

Questions

Chimney Liner Questions From Dallas Homeowners

How much does a chimney liner cost in Dallas?

The price depends on the height of the chimney, the size of the flue and the type of liner. We scan the flue with a camera, measure it, and give you a written price. The estimate is free, and a new liner can be financed at 0% interest for 24 months on approved credit.

How do I know if my chimney liner is damaged?

You usually cannot tell from the living room. The signs are pieces of clay tile in the firebox, a smoky smell in rooms next to the chimney, or dark stains on the wall around it. A camera inspection shows cracks and gaps for certain.

Is it safe to use a fireplace with a cracked liner?

No. The liner keeps heat, smoke and carbon monoxide inside the flue until they leave the house. A crack lets them reach the brick and the wood framing behind it. Stop using the fireplace until the flue has been checked.

How long does a stainless steel chimney liner last?

A good stainless steel liner that is swept and inspected each year lasts for decades. Clay tile liners can last as long too, but they crack from chimney fires, foundation movement and water.

Do I need a liner for gas logs or an insert?

Often, yes. A gas insert or wood insert needs a liner sized to that appliance so it drafts the way the maker intended. A flue that is too big lets the exhaust cool and leaves moisture on the walls.

How long does chimney liner installation take?

Most liners go in within one day. We scan the flue, clean it, lower the liner from the roof, connect it at the bottom, seal the top and test the draft.
